4 Mini-Splits and Heat Pump Efficiency, Will It Work?
Yes, I drive tractors too. Combined with home energy audit work, I'm a player at heart. I received a call from a men that requires some help backfilling and leveling out the dirt around the foundation of his homes new addition.
Since the ground is dry enough, I load up my 24 horsepower tractor with bucket, attach the tiller and head over to his place. I find a classic original house that was constructed shortly after the wagon trains arrived. Attached sideways is the new addition that actually stands apart and looks great.
Out front, facing the trail, is the brand new two car garage. It is unmistakable a brand new garage. The newest siding, paint and the gargoyles over the garage entrance update the structure. That which you don't see from the road is the hobby room, three bedrooms and two baths behind the garage. I was lucky enough to obtain a tour of the newest digs after I acquired through with the surface dirt moving.
I obtained a new surprise when I turned the corner on the back side of the addition. I have not seen this before and it took me a couple of minutes to appreciate what I was looking at. Coming out of the concrete foundation, just above dirt line, were four sets of insulated copper lines and four sets of 1/2 inch PVC pipe. Could this be future heat pump efficiency?
I could be wrong, nonetheless it appears like this person will install four heat pumps behind his house!
Why Four Heat Pumps? Warmtepompen
About this time around, the homeowner and I got into only a little discussion concerning how he was planning on heating and cooling this addition. Come to find out, he's it all planned out and, it appears to me, he has a great, energy efficient plan.
Here will be the major points to his energy saving plan and heat pump efficiency.
1. During construction, while the interior and exterior walls were open, he had four mini-split heat pump units installed and the refrigerant lines place in place. Because the walls and underfloor areas were accessible, he could mount the units on interior walls. One in each bedroom and one in the hobby room.
2. Each heat pump unit will have its own outside coil, compressor, indoor coil, and air handler. Each room also has it's own wireless thermostat control.
